Ultra Violet, Will You Be Mine? – How to Wear the Colour of the Year

A purple square with the word pantone on it.

Clothing always will be a way of speaking volumes without saying a word. Besides conveying your intentions, your respect for a situation and the parts of your personality you want to share, colour can also set your mood. When you decide to dress in colours, choose to wear ones that inspire and stimulate you. Each year, The Pantone Color Institute devises global colour trend forecasts that will be utilized in branding, product development and in retail. The Pantone Colour for 2018 is an electric cool purple dubbed Ultra Violet. Wear it when you are feeling bold, whether in a small dose of an accessory or all-over in a loud way. Regardless of how, I think you should give it a test drive.

Solid Ultra Violet

A great way to utilize a bold, non-neutral colour is a classically-shaped piece. This long pencil skirt is easy to wear in this stand-out colour. Pair it with neutrals or complimentary colours such as yellow.

Got a gala to attend this spring? Go for a bright, beautiful dress in Ultra Violet. The unique neckline on this one is eye-catching, and the colour is statement-making.

Light up the night with an overcoat in a colour that can’t be ignored. It almost doesn’t matter what you wear underneath, as this simple coat has a lot to say.

This shirtdress is another classic silhouette that works for many body shapes and many different occasions. I quite like the mix of Ultra Violet with a little dose of cream and red, though I would switch that belt for one that is a little more interesting. A metallic rose gold one, perhaps?

Ultra Violet Prints

If you don’t feel ready for colour-blocking Ultra Violet solid pieces, try prints that strategically use the colour in an eye-pleasing way. The electric purple in this modern print is effective. Dark florals are a growing trend for this spring, and this dress is as simple to wear as a T-shirt. You could even add a wrap belt or a waist-defining cropped biker jacket to complete the outfit. (Also, check out those sock boots…squeee!)

Imagine this divine dark floral as your wedding-guest dress. Lovely. (As a side note, I do like how the ankle straps on those shoes mimic the shoulder straps on the dress.) A woman wearing a dress with purple flowers.

Ultra Violet Accessories

If adorning yourself fully with the undeniably loud Colour of the Year 2018 is a little too much for you, try Ultra Violet accessories instead. This nail colour looks completely dreamy, in a grown-up unicorn and moonbeams kind of way.

More sunny days are on their way, I know this for certain. Sunglasses are a quick and easy way to update your look for spring. This pair with purple-tinged lenses will go with your event dresses, jeans-and-T’s and even with your head-to-toe black outfits.A pair of sunglasses with purple lenses.

Just a small going-out bag in 2018’s colour of the year will make the kind of subtle statement you like at your next warm-weather event. And how great is this mix of Ultra Violet with teal, turquoise and white? It’s just right.
