Seeds of Change – Product Review

A bag of quinoa and brown rice with herbs.

You might not know this about me, but I have a culinary arts diploma and had a career in cooking for 7 years. You could say I am a bit of a “foodie”. You also might not know that I am a Fit 4 Two® fitness trainer, so exercise and eating healthy, is a priority for me. You also might not know, that besides being a personal stylist and fitness trainer, I am a little league and hockey mom. Unfortunately, this means even with the best of intentions, our family’s schedule is so hectic we end up eating a lot on the fly. When Seeds of Change asked me to taste and then review one of their new organic, microwaveable rice side dishes, I was all over it.

I don’t often reach for packaged convenience food, but I soon found out there is so much to like about Seeds of Change.

Convenient The rice is ready in 90 seconds. 90 SECONDS! That’s super fast. It’s about the same amount of time my son will spend tidying up his room before he decides it’s clean enough. It’s also only a fraction of the time it takes to cook brown rice from scratch.

Healthy The ingredients are organic and there are no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Bonus points for being vegetarian friendly!

Tasty The rice has all the nutty flavour of regular brown rice, but with a hint of seasoning.

Versatile You can serve it as is straight out of the package, or you can throw in as many extras as your imagination will allow. Serve it hot on the side of your meat/meat alternative or perhaps with your favourite stew or chili on top. You can also serve it cold like you would a rice salad.

Seeds of Change – Quinoa & Brown Rice with Garlic

A plate of food on top of a tray.

I could have simply followed the directions and had it as a side dish, but I was inspired to jazz it up with some items I already had in the fridge. It took about 10 minutes to chop up a few summer veggies, add some canned chick peas and toast a handful of chopped walnuts.

Because I was serving it cold, I didn’t even bother to put the package in the microwave. I just opened the pouch into a small bowl, broke up any large pieces and then added it to the chopped veggies. I poured on my favourite balsamic vinaigrette and stirred to combine. I served it on a bed of greens and garnished with the toasted walnuts. The best part? Not only did my family enjoy the dish, they thought I was being fancy!

Simple, fast, healthy, delicious. Now that’s my style! Put a couple of these pouches on your grocery list and you can thank me later.
