Top 5 Outerwear Picks of the January Sales

Almost all shops are currently in sale mode. In planning your shopping strategy, it is essential to realize there are standard months in which to get the best prices on the goods you are looking for. Stock up on jeans in October. Buy on-sale luggage in March before the new versions are released for summer travel. You can get the best prices on champagne in December as the demand for bubbly increases during the holiday season. (How could I have possibly missed out? This is a problem.) High-end chocolate goes on sale after Valentine’s Day (go figure), and I am always in the mood for high-end chocolate. Specifically, January is a great time to invest in sale-priced outerwear.

Why Outerwear is Not An Afterthought

There is something about tossing a great coat over a simple outfit that changes everything. Think of your most basic trousers-and-top work outfit that is undeniably polished up with kicky shoes and a fabulous coat. Nothing transforms the impression of your average jeans and T like amazing outerwear, worn with nonchalance. Personally, I like how changing up my outerwear alters my entire look.

Why Now?

Coats and jackets tend to be more costly than much of the tops-pants-skirts we have in our closets. Of course, a good coat wardrobe is an investment, and so, why not buy those quality pieces you love when they are on sale? It’s a great time to buy a quality, basic coat with great details. Alternatively, it’s a fantastic time to buy something fabulous that you might not typically purchase. Here are my top 5 picks of the current selection of outerwear on January clearance…

The Goods

1. Car Coat

This is one you will wear for the rest of your life. Camel will always be a classic colour, and this length is versatile. This masculine shape is an excellent counterpoint to a strongly feminine silhouette.

2. Puffer Trenchcoat

An all-around ideal basic for our wet-coast winters. Gold asymmetric zippers and a puffy-but-not-too-puffy style enhance your frame. The navy colour of this coat means you’ll stand out ever-so-slightly in a sea of black winter coats. Undoubtedly, there is plenty of winter left for winter coats.

3. Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket

Now, this is a statement! How sumptuous does that leather look? This is one piece of outerwear you’ll wear every fall, throw over your shoulders for summer evening beach strolls, and layer it under a faux fur vest with numerous scarves in winter. Conclusively, a leather jacket is a classic that is a necessity in everyone’s wardrobe.

4. Waterfall Collar Jacket

This throw-on-and-go piece is a stunner. First of all, the colour is timeless. Additionally, this shape exudes quality, ease and refinement. And, it is just as comfortable as that ratty cardigan you throw over everything in the shoulder seasons. Only, this piece is acceptable to wear in full daylight. Expect it to make everything under it look more polished.

5. Leopard Print with Coloured Fur Collar

With this coat, a shrinking violet you will never be. I’m envisioning this with mom jeans and a band T-shirt. Or a tuxedo jumpsuit and platform heels. Alternatively, a silky pussy-bow blouse and pencil skirt combo. What about one of your LBDs? Maybe this should be mine. Ok, yes. This is decidedly a must-have.
