Retiring in 2018 after 11 years as a fitness trainer left me feeling a bit empty inside. As much as I enjoy my one-on-one time with my personal styling clients, I missed the party atmosphere of my group fitness classes. I missed “my girls”. I needed to get my regular fix of sisterhood and teamwork. So a few months ago, when I heard my favourite place to send clients for bra fittings was hiring, I jumped on it. I’m now a bra fitter at the iconic Diane’s Lingerie on South Granville. As a result, you count on me to build you a stylish and functional wardrobe and now “support” you in other ways.
Expert Bra Fitter
As a stylist, I could put you in the chicest outfit, but wearing the wrong bra won’t do your clothing justice. Tops and dresses don’t present as they are supposed to when your tatas are at your elbows. Nor do they flatter you if you have quadraboob.
It’s not just about how your clothes look though. Sporting the correct bra for your size and shape is comfortable, improves your posture, reduces neck and back pain and helps with breathing. Lifting the girls also helps to lift the spirit.
Before I started at Diane’s, I had no idea how much there is to know about fitting a bra correctly. As a solid “C” cup, it wasn’t something I thought a lot about. Now I know beyond the band and cup size we must consider the width and position of underwires, size and shape of breasts, depth of cups, type of lace, moulded or soft, cut and sewn or seamless, etc. I am training with expert bra fitters, some who have been there a decade or more. While I wouldn’t exactly call myself an expert (yet) I have learned oodles about boobies and brassieres.
Every body is different. We fit them all!
It’s not that I had a burning desire to work in retail, although I had a hunch I’d be good at it. It was more about a desire to work with women of all ages and sizes building confidence, improving health, promoting body-love and enhancing self-esteem. I’m proud of our little shop. Proud that we’ve been around for over 35 years. Proud of the incredible customer service. Even the shyest guests feel safe and well taken care of. The range of sizes Diane’s carries ensures every woman gets a great fit for their shape and leaves feeling <ahem> perked up.
