Family Local Moms SUMMER Teens Vancouver

Family Fun in Revelstoke – Pipe Mountain Coaster

I hope your summer is off to a great start. As I wrote in a previous post, I’m on a mission to find family fun for local Vancouver families who have older children. Although I’m older than most mommy bloggers, I’m still a mama and want to continue to play and make memories with my kid…especially now that he is old enough to remember them.

My hubby, son, and I took the opportunity to tag on a day trip to Revelstoke after two full days of baseball in Kelowna. Revelstoke had always been one of those towns I’d driven through, but not spent much time in. This little ski town aspires to be the next Whistler and has more to offer than I expected.  Cute shops, a variety of restaurants and cafes, and an artsy vibe make me want to head back there and explore more.

REVELSTOKE PIPE MOUNTAIN COASTER

Located at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort in BC, the Pipe Mountain Coaster is definitely worth checking out.

We took a short gondola ride up to the first peak and wandered around for a bit. Once we had our tickets, we were given a number, so we knew what time approximately we needed to head towards the coaster. (They call groups of forty people at a time, allowing about thirty minutes per group.) There is a restaurant with an incredible view to enjoy while you wait.

One downside was the lack of shade at the top. It was a smokin’ hot day when we went, and once it was our turn to board, we had to stand in the sun for longer than I would have liked.

We saw parents riding with their preschoolers, and older kids riding solo. Because you control the speed of your cart, everyone can go as fast or as slow as they want.

Here is a short video I shot with my iPhone from the coaster. For safety reasons, both hands need to be on the brake of the coaster cart. Since I don’t own a GoPro, I wore the clear plastic pouch I bought when we went dune buggy-ing in Oregon last summer. I was able to slip the phone into the pouch and wear it at chest height. Instant “booby cam.” ha!

A Sneak Peek at the Pipe

Go to the 42km/hr maximum if you wish, (I did for a few stretches), but going a bit slower allows you to take in the majestic mountains and natural beauty all around. It might also help your little one feel safe.

Good Clean Family Fun

If you’re passing through Revelstoke or you’re planning to spend a few days in town for some family fun, the Pipe Mountain Coaster is worth checking out. Whether you have a cautious tot, a happy-go-lucky tween or a thrill-seeking teen, I’m confident your whole family will have a blast.

I received complimentary passes to ride the Pipe Mountain Coaster, but opinions expressed are my own.
